Candle Care and Safety

Safety First!

Each of our candles and melt packages will have a warning label. Please take the time to read before lighting your candle or melting your wax for the first time.

Choose a safe place for your candle or wax warmer-keep out of reach of pets and children. Keep clear of anything above or near that could get hot or catch flame. Select a suitable surface, protect that surface under your candle or wax warmer-use coaster or other heat resistant areas-do NOT use lid. Avoid areas with wind or drafts. Choose a place that is well ventilated and away from all flammable items. Do not leave unattended when in use.

When using a wax warmer-follow the manufactures instructions. Never add water. Never melt wax on stove, microwave, or any other appliance. If a lightbulb is used be sure wattage is within range. If using candle as source to heat, follow candle care instructions.

Always trim wick to 1/4inch-not just at first light but each time before lighting. Before lighting, remove any debris and trimmed wick piece. This prevents the wick from burning with a larger flame which can cause smoke or soot on the vessel or can lead to debris in your candle that could take flame.

Handle with care-the wax warmers and candle vessels will be hot when in use or lit. Don't move the container while burning or until the wax has hardened and cooled. Never use water to extinguish a flame.

Candle Care

Optimize candle burn and quality-The first time you burn your candle, burn it long enough for the melted wax to reach all the way to the edge of your vessel. Not doing so, could create a “tunnel” which makes it difficult to stay lit in the future. Wax has a memory. Candles like a full pool, so let the wax melt edge-to-edge.

Burn time-When you light a candle, the ideal burn time is 2-3 hours per lighting. Any time less, may result in the candle burning down the center (aka tunneling) resulting in unused wax and possible inability to relight.

Extinguish candles properly-use a candle snuffer for the safest and cleanest way to put out the flame. Blowing out flame can cause splattering of wax. If you notice excessive smoke or soot, extinguish and trim wick before relighting.

When do I STOP use?

If using a wax warmer, STOP use when 1/2inch of wax is left. At this point turn off electric source-light or extinguish candle. If you want to continue, add additional wax melts.

For candles, STOP use when 1/2inch of wax remains in vessel. If you choose to continue to burn a low wax candle the heat will transfer to the vessel instead of the wax which can cause an issue. STOP if your candle has been burning for more than four hours. When you burn it for too long, the wax becomes liquid and causes movement of the wick.

Keeping Your Vessel

No matter what vessel you have purchased when there is less than 1/2inch of wax and it is no longer safe to burn, extinguish the flame. Get a pot (slightly bigger than your vessel) and fill it with about 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil. Set your used candle inside the pot sitting upright as it would burning. Let the water boil around it until all wax is liquid. Carefully (it will be very hot) take it out and dump the liquid wax out and wipe the inside of the vessel with a paper towel-this removes any left over wax. Your vessel is now ready for you to repurpose and use as you wish!
